AMI is a Portuguese nonprofit institution aiming to intervene rapidly in crisis and emergency situations and to fight underdevelopment, hunger, poverty, social exclusion and the consequences of war anywhere in the world.
Their most recent campaign is to promote a “Book Saver Kit”, a set of plastic covers to protect school books.
The photoshoot took place in a studio just outside Lisbon. The staff from AMI was there, as were the models (8 children), and some parents.
Photographing children is a challenge. They get distracted very easily, and you have to keep things fun at all times. It all went well. AMI’s staff (who are also parents) were very good handling them, and helped a lot.
I kept the set up simple: a white background, a couple of studio strobes lighting it up, and one light on the subjects. We also used some props, like books and the Kit itself.
It was a morning of hard work, but the results paid off. I’m very glad I am able to contribute to such important projects with my photography.
